Want more copies of the Staying Smokefree journal for years 7&8 students?
We have had a huge demand for extra copies of the Student Journal (pictured right), part of the years 7&8 Staying Smokefree/Te Noho Auahi Kore teaching resource. We will shortly be able to offer schools a cost-effective alternative to the time-consuming task of photocopying extra journals for students.
The price will be about $1 per journal. We'd like to get an idea of demand for the journal so please let Kath know if your school would be interested in ordering copies.

Workshops to support new smokefree resources
Kath Blair welcomed the opportunity in recent weeks to present several regional workshops. Unpacking the new resources in more detail and discussing ways of incorporating them into both strategic and curriculum planning was a useful exercise for participants from a variety of organisations and schools. Feedback from people at the workshops included the following:
"We realised we had over-rated our knowledge initially, and definitely came away motivated and with more knowledge."
"I am impressed with the up-to-date planning and ideas presented. In particular, the eight stories seem "in touch" with student lives and societal pressures, and resonate with me as I recall student confidences and comments."
If you would like an opportunity to organise a workshop in your area to enable health promoters, teachers, principals and students to gain a in-depth understanding of the resources, please contact Kath to discuss.

Did you know?
An Irish schools-based study found that positive teacher-student relationships reduced students' risk of daily smoking by 48%. This study also looked at alcohol and cannabis use. You can read the abstract here or contact Kath for a full copy of this published study.
